The first inhabitants probably migrated from Venezuela around 2500 BC
In 1525 Juan Martínez de Ampiés, the representative of the king of Spain in Hispaniola, got permission to Christianize Indians and bring them back to Curaçao. These Indians had been deported from Curaçao in order to work in the copper mines.
In two following expeditions to the island of Hispaniola, six Spaniards, a bricklayer, and a carpenter were sent there to build a mission center in order to consolidate the evangelization of the native population and those banished there.
